The Scarlet Letter#5756 Roger Chillingworth arrives in New England to find his wife, Hester on trial for adultery. For refusing to reveal her lover's identity, she is condemned to wear a letter 'A' sewn onto her clothes. With her baby and the red letter A on her breast, Hester faces the scorn of the townsfolk. Hester supports herself as a seamstress and is helped by Arthur Dimmesdale, a minister. Chillingworth notices that Dimmesdale is wasting away under his guilt and suspects that he is Pearl's father. In this love triangle, Roger torments Dimmesdale but Hester can say nothing because of her promise to Chillingworth. Finally, she decides to come clean and redeem Dimmesdale.
