English for the Thoughtful Child, Volume One, revised and edited by Cunthia A. Shearer and published by Greenleaf Press, was originally published in 1900 by Mary F. Hyde. It uses wonderful pictures to stimulate the child's imagination to lead into writing and includes memorization assignments, oral compositions, written compositions and practice excercises. A gentle approach to the introduction of grammar and writing, the editor uses it as a 2nd grade English text, however, it is also very useful as a first course for older, reluctant writers. No teacher's edition is necessary, 99 pages.
