With this kit, children ages 10 and up can continue their studies of statics and dynamics from previous lessons and begin to study more advanced topics in physics, including fluid dynamics, energy, oscillation, hydraulics, and pneumatics. The main focus of the kit is the behavior of the two most important fluids in our world — water and air — and objects immersed in them. You will investigate how air and water rest and flow, what they can carry and how they move. With experiments and models, you will find out what forces work on them and what kinds of energy they possess. You will learn how ships float and airplanes fly, why a streamlined shape lets a car drive faster and how power plants convert a current of water into electrical current. The 96-page, full-color experiment manual has two major sections. In the first part, you will enter the physics lab, where you will get to know the properties of air and water and become familiar with currents and energy. Pepper Mint in the Fantastic Underwater Science Voyage

In this story-based STEM kit, Pepper Mint accompanies an expedition to the Bermuda Triangle. Soon she discovers that the ocean water there behaves in strange and unexpected ways. When the onboard systems of the research vessel fail, Pepper Mint figures out how to use water to make simple hydraulic machines and conduct experiments with pressure and density.

The accompanying story takes the characters from experiment to experiment and shows them how to power small machines with the help of water. Pepper Mint constructs a rig to raise and lower the ship’s flag and a series of hydraulic devices including a ship’s crane. A deep-sea fish with big snapping jaws is modeled using a scissors mechanism. Finally, Pepper Mint fixes the ship’s propeller and discovers it produces a lot of tiny air bubbles, which inspires the creation of an electric bubble-blowing machine with a propeller.

The experiments teach lessons in mechanical physics, electric circuits, and physical science principles related to water and air.

The kit includes materials to build the boat and do the projects, a full-color illustrated storybook and step-by-step instruction manual, as well as a scale Pepper Mint figurine.
