Filling a pivotal spot in the LLATL Gold series, this course covers college prep writing with a focus on literary response writing. Utilizing the LLATL-Gold format of complete daily instructional lessons (five lessons per week for 36 weeks) written directly to the student and incorporating an impressive collection of literary genres and selections, challenging writing assignments are approached in a manageable step-by-step manner. The student is taught to think critically and to organize their thoughts coherently. With reading assignments, thought-provoking discussion questions, writing samples, and opportunities to practice techniques with writing prompts, the emphasis is on effective thesis statements and well-crafted essays. During the course, the student will construct 12 five-paragraph essays, 3 five-page essays, and 1 ten-page essay. The course covers outlining and different literary styles, considers historical/author context, and notes how the reader responds to the literary selection. Within the daily lessons are reading, research, and writing assignments.
The Course Book provides all student lessons plus a teacher section that supplies answers and scoring/grading guidance. The Anthology is a collection of short stories and literary excerpts used in the course but several whole book studies are also completed.
